The Legend of Zelda: A Tribute

Dedicated to one of my favorite franchises of all time.

I am infinitely thankful to Shigeru Miyamoto for putting all of his heart, innovation, adventurous spirit and fun into his creation.

Thank you for following!

WIP - Tribute to The Legend of Zelda

One of my greatest influences in fantasy adventure is the Legend of Zelda series.  I just had to come up with something for an upcoming competition!

Myanmar

Sketch from a couple days ago -- I was trying to simplify the shapes and detail, but preserve the locations' realistic color.

Annapurna

After playing Uncharted 2, I've found I really like Annapurna.  Maybe I'll go there myself someday.

Blending Modes Tutorial

As requested -- a detailed tutorial on using blending modes in Photoshop!

For more skilled artists who know about this stuff, there are some good tricks in here about removing undesired line work and artifacts using blending modes.

Canyon Temple

Needed to practice my landscapes more -- it's amazing how out of touch your landscape skills get when you've been doing nothing but character art for a month!

Coast Temple

Studying Ireland helps!  I looked at photos of Strath Mor to get me inspired to do this study.  Learned a lot about how to set up realistic skies in 3D space.

ZAP!

Here's the process to the latest card art done for Chromancer -- I think this is the sixth one I've done for them now.

When you do illustrations of threatening foes, think about the dynamic quality of the composition and the action pose of your subject -- are they communicating the danger and intensity behind the idea?

Cleft

Quick sketch between freelancing jobs.  It's a good composition idea, I might do something more with it later...

Kalas Marodin - Process

I don't usually start from gray scale, but it does help with plotting out a large open world in 3D space.  I used some overlay layers to start with the coloring, but changed back to my usual method and painted it in using the color selector.

Beyond the Coastal Rift (refined)

Extremely violent currents in the ocean and jagged cliffs surrounding this ancient castle town make it near impossible to reach.  Only a secret hidden stair reaches the entrance, and it is watched by a loyal legion of tribal guardians who know a thing or two about traps...

What originally started as a cloud study, ended up almost a full painting.  I may render this even further for a portfolio piece I'm so jazzed!

Island Practice

Island construction!  3 point perspective practice.

Now onto some more dragons, I think I get the point...
